Kusum Bhandari

Dr. Bhandari has been a leading nephrologist with Nephrology Specialists of Oklahoma since 2003. She currently practices at our Yale Office and serves as the Medical Director for multiple Dialysis programs. She holds active hospital privileges at Hillcrest Medical Center, Hillcrest South, St. Francis Hospital, and Ascension St. John.

With over two decades of clinical experience, Dr. Bhandari specializes in the management of diabetic nephropathy, a growing cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and kidney failure. She works closely with patients and primary care providers to slow the progression of kidney damage caused by diabetes through early intervention, medication management, and lifestyle-based care plans. Her proactive, personalized approach helps patients with diabetes protect their kidney function and avoid long-term complications.
In addition to her focus on diabetic kidney disease, Dr. Bhandari has strong clinical interests in kidney transplantation and dialysis care, offering comprehensive management for patients at all stages of kidney health—from early diagnosis to advanced kidney failure.

Dr. Bhandari earned her medical degree from S.M.S. Medical College in Jaipur, India. She completed her internal medicine residency at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas, and pursued her nephrology fellowship at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Dr. Bhandari is known for her patient-centered philosophy, evidence-based care, and commitment to improving outcomes for individuals living with diabetes-related kidney disease.
